Nooky explores the facets of addiction on new clip ‘Numb’

Nooky burst onto the scene in 2010, after moving from Nowra to Sydney and gaining attention for his unmatched rhymes and technical rap style. After making a name for himself in his new hometown, the multidisciplinary artist first received international recognition on a chance meeting with Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas. In 2016, he took home the Australia Council’s Dreaming Prize for young Indigenous artists, before going on to release his debut solo single “Black Future” in 2018.Nooky’s name has been built on the energetic shows he delivers proud in his blackness while firm in every word’s ferocity.  Nooky has positioned his music and voice at the forefront of conversations around changing the date and educating others on the Nation’s true history.

“Numb” broadens Nooky’s unapologetic attitude while taking a step back from his signature fiery lyrics and drawing focus to his honest words, a dip in trap production and warped beats courtesy of collaborator Solo. Speaking to its name, the track explores the facets of addiction, unpacking moments at the brink of emotion when substances are turned to for numbing pain. Numb is produced by IamSolo, with guitar and additional vox by Thom Crawford. The video was produced by Level 48 Visuals, shot and edited by Nelson Faulds and directed by Nelson Faulds and Nooky.

Get Your Music into NBA 2K20 with the UnitedMasters App

2K partners with industry legend Steve Stoute’s latest venture to curate and update soundtrack;

Kicks off international search to find “Next” Artists to be featured in NBA 2K20

2K has announced that NBA® 2K20, the next iteration of the top-rated and top-selling NBA video game simulation series of the past 18 years*, is launching their most expansive soundtrack to date with 50 tracks from artists such as Drake, Meek Mill, Billie Eilish, Post Malone and the late Nipsey Hussle.

All of the songs have been chosen by 2K and validated by UnitedMasters, the new industry alternative for independent artists, founded by the legendary music entrepreneur and businessman, Steve Stoute. Additional songs will be dynamically added throughout the year across genres, spanning hip-hop, R&B, electronic, pop and rock. Fans can experience the soundtrack beginning today on Spotify by visiting https://2kgam.es/2xXSZXK.

Alongside the new soundtrack, 2K and UnitedMasters are kicking off a global search[i] to discover the hottest new artists and tracks to be added to the game. From August 1st until September 15th, artists can submit their track using the new UnitedMasters app and it will be evaluated by Steve Stoute, 2K and star-studded celebrity judging panel. The 10 best tracks will be chosen and added to the soundtrack in a later update.

NBA 2K has become a centrepiece of culture and sports for the gaming community, with the soundtrack playing a significant role in its success,” said Steve Stoute, Founder and CEO of Translation and United Masters. “Artists can now get discovered and launch their careers by having a song featured. UnitedMasters will open that opportunity to independent artists and help curate the next generation of talent. This year’s soundtrack will be updated constantly with new exciting music from the next generation rising stars to give you something you never heard before.”

“Music is at the core of the NBA 2K experience, and each year, we work hard to deliver a soundtrack that reflects basketball culture and inspires 2K players,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for NBA 2K. “We wanted NBA 2K20 to showcase the best of the next generation of up-and-coming artists, and our global search with UnitedMasters gives these musicians a platform to reach the 2K community.”

The full tracklist for this year’s soundtrack was revealed this weekend at ComplexCon Chicago. At the show, 2K hosted a panel discussing the intersection of hoops, tech, fashion and music. Steve Stoute, along with Paul Rivera, Karl-Anthony Towns, Don C, and NLE Choppa for an insightful conversation on culture and the role that 2K plays.

Is ‘Freedom’ ChillinIT’s first shot at radio play?

ChillinIT is, without question, the most exciting new hip-hop artist in Australia, one of the most revered new rappers in the Southern Hemisphere and an emerging cult figure among his legion of dedicated fans, the 420 Family.

His independently released debut album “Women, Weed & Wordplay” has amassed over 35 million streams since its release in October 2018.

And his debut national tour, dubbed The Ashes, saw ChillinIT embark on his first-ever headline run over twenty sold-out dates, selling a remarkable 8000+ tickets across the country with virtually no mainstream media presence. Soon he will be the first Australian artist to appear on BBC 1’s Fire In The Booth with Charlie Sloth.

‘Freedom’, has been lifted from ChillinIT’s upcoming sophomore album ‘The Octagon’. Stay tuned for more details soon.

NEW MUSIC FROM NOOKY – “NUMB”

Acclaimed Yuin MC Nooky returns today with his new single “Numb”, out via Bad Apples Music. The track arrives with a visual partner bringing to life the strikingly transparent lyricism Nooky is consistently praised for.

The power of Nooky’s music is not confined to his own introspection and self-therapeutic benefits, rather it acts as both a tool soothing his own anger as well as reaching others to make a social and political point. Premiered on Triple J’s Good Nights“Numb” broadens Nooky’s unapologetic attitude while taking a step back from his signature fiery lyrics and drawing focus to his honest words, a dip in trap production and warped beats courtesy of collaborator Solo. Speaking to its name, the track explores the facets of addiction, unpacking moments at the brink of emotion when substances are turned to for numbing pain. Filmed at Sydney’s The Lord Gladstone and premiered by FilterZine, the accompanying video morphs these sentiments into a hazy night out, with dizzying scenes mimicking the effect of alcohol and resulting disjointed feelings of numbness.

Nooky says of the single: “Numb is a side of me that I don’t usually show, it’s something that I have hidden for quite some time, it’s about turning to substance abuse to numb the pain when you are finding it hard to face your problems. Music was my healing, it was my release, but sometimes I needed to escape my escape and just be numb to my emotions and thoughts but the next day shit’s still the same and if anything it put a hindrance on my healing.”

Nooky burst onto the scene in 2010, after moving from southern coastal town Nowra to Sydney and gaining attention for his unmatched rhymes and technical rap style. After making a name for himself in his new hometown, the multidisciplinary artist first received international recognition on a chance meeting with Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, next flying to LA to collaborate on a track. In 2016, he took home the Australia Council’s Dreaming Prize for young Indigenous artists, before going on to release his debut solo single “Black Future” in 2018. Nooky has appeared on tracks with B Wise, P Smurf, Birdz, Sonboy, Manu Crooks and more, plus featured his second solo track “Blackfellas” on 2019’s Deadly Hearts 2 compilation album, shining a light on Indigenous music, culture and identity alongside Dan Sultan, Electric Fields, Busby Marou, Tia Gostelow and more. Not slowing down there, Nooky is also an esteemed producer, having curated the behind the scenes on tracks from Birdz, Caiti Baker and Tasman Keith.

Hi Melbourne 👋. I’m here to play with The Bamboos tonight at the Recital Centre. Come thru!

Lucky to call Jayteehazard my touring DJ, a collaborator who enhances our performances and literally holds me down. His own releases are mad, they don’t get enough attention imo. In addition he makes his own videos – have a look at this animation visualiser he created for newest song Drown. I mean, seriously?!! The guy is a genius. Show him some love and don’t be shy. Life is too short. See More
