Breaking Down the Nike x Travis Scott Air Max 270 “Cactus Trails”

With the Nike x Travis Scott Air Max 270 “Cactus Trails,” design allows for imaginative time travel. A ’90s attitude come through in trail tans and ACG colour pops and gives the shoe a vintage appeal, while the well-worn look conveys a back-from-the-future sensibility.

The colour schemes also connect to Scott’s own affinity for vintage apparel. Material selection, including a polar fleece collar, further relays an outdoor connection, while oxidation of the upper, midsole and Air unit, achieved through a tint Sulphur dye, helps celebrate the beauty of a well-loved object’s patina. Additional details include a custom tongue-tab, lace-lock and an extra Swoosh on the toe.

The Nike x Travis Scott Air Max 270 “Cactus Trails” releases May 29 in adult, preschool and toddler versions. The latter two introduce a unique take on the design, complete with reverse Swoosh, just for kids, a first in Nike x Travis Scott collaborations.

Additionally, an apparel collection including a hoodie, sweatpants and T-shirt extend Scott’s interest in uniting sportswear comfort with utilitarian multi-pocket function.

We Talk To Lakshane Ahead Of The Release Of His Brand New Single ‘Reload’

After the release of his self produced EP ‘Come Alive’ which picked up nods from Spotify and even an exclusive segment on Beats1 radio, rapper/producer powerhouse Lakshane is back at it, announcing a brand new single, ‘Reload’ that will be out on all major platforms on the 29th of May.

‘Reload’, like the Melbourne rapper’s previous music, is for the hip hop lovers, boasting a vibrant chorus and lyrics full of bravado that captures the true essence of this upcoming Australian talent. The instrumentals were created by Perth producer FRAAN, which complement the upbeat and high octane feel of the overall song.

Reload is something I wanted to get off my chest. I feel like I allow a lot of people into my life without a wall and they take advantage of it or don’t reciprocate the love. Reload expresses my ability to reset and keep going despite these people and the other barriers I encounter

Australia’s Hip Hop scene is definitely in its International boom right now. Sound wise I feel like we still have to find what makes us unique instead of adopting or copying others, Youngn Lipz, Chillinit and The Kid Laroi definitely bringing that though. I hope we can move past the boom bap and onto something new. With R&B there’s a lot of artists killing it from AU who aren’t talked about like rappers. They’re actually putting up great numbers and doing big things. Let’s hope we can make Australia’s urban music industry more profitable for artists“.

You can pre-save the track ahead of it’s release to all platforms here: https://ffm.to/50nxvpm.ofp

Matthew Craig Returns With Existential R&B Jam ‘Plug All Night’

It’s been four years since Melbourne based recording artist Matthew Craig released his debut single ‘Ivory’. In that time the label manager for R.E.A.L Music has slipped into a behind-the-scenes role overseeing careers including Junor and Kae The Goat, however he’s returned in 2020 with a new Jazz-infused late night R&B jam Plug All Night.

As hip-hop culture has exploded in recent years, we’ve seen the emergence of new fusion forms of the genre and now Matthew Craig introduces us to a new twist incorporating Jazz. While traditionally Jazz/Rap fusions have involved rhymes over Jazz beats, this new sub-genre flips the formula; utilising Jazz melodies in the likes of Sammy Davis Jr or Frank Sinatra, over modern 808 kicks and hi-hats from Sydney based producer Delipres (Coast & Ocean, Imbi The Girl)

“It’s a song about searching for answers. About searching for hope in a world which seems more chaotic than ever. I like to talk about smoking as a metaphor for knowledge. Just inhaling more wisdom with each new experience…”

Plug All Night comes with a late-night drive visualiser and is promised to be the first single from the forthcoming “Smoke Bigger” EP by Matthew Craig and Delipres. The project is set to continue the vocalist’s search for knowledge and guidance exploring sounds ranging from jazz, through to R&B and reggae. The 5 track EP is due for release later this year via R.E.A.L Music.

Dallas Woods Returns With New Single And Video ‘If It Glitters It’s Gold’

Following a triple j premiere last week, East Kimberly-bred, Melbourne-based rapper and songwriter Dallas Woods returns with a new single and video, ‘If It Glitters It’s Gold’.

Crafted together with Jerome Farrah, a long time friend and collaborator, the track reflects on his time in the music industry and the illusion of glitz, glamour and success. The new single also arrives with the accompanying visual directed by Zachary Harris.

Speaking of the track, Dallas Woods says: “We live in a world where we’re told ‘bigger is better’ and every day is a reminder of just how much we want to outdo the person next to us. I’ve been guilty of that too. I wanted to be as big, if not bigger, than people who inspire or paved the way for my journey. But that goes against my morals. And in doing that I realised just how much energy it takes to maintain an ego.”

‘If It Glitters It’s Gold’ blends hard truths with tongue-in-cheek rhymes and clever punchlines (lyrics here) – which is the Dallas Woods way. The 26-year-old’s music uses wit and wordplay to get his messages out, weaving comments on big issues into rapid-fire rhymes. His three previous singles, ‘9 Times Out Of 10’, ‘Hoodlum’ and ‘Chapter One’ spoke about the justice system and racial stereotyping, while his Baker Boy collaboration ‘Black Magic’ stormed in with bravado, Blak pride and that classic ‘90s hip-hop-style charisma.

Since releasing his first single in 2018, Dallas has been named triple j Unearthed’s Indigenous Artist Of The Year, dubbed “powerful” and “blistering” by triple j tastemakers, and enjoyed high rotation on the station. He’s received praise and support from FBi, Triple R, The West Australian, Acclaim Mag and Junkee, among others, and performed to huge crowds at the National Indigenous Music Awards, Bluesfest, Groovin the Moo Bendigo and at the Forum Theatre in Melbourne, where he stepped up to support Sampa the Great.

In 2019, he contributed to Red Bull’s 64 Bars series delivering an incendiary three-minute rap about his hometown, which has now pulled in over 300,000 views on YouTube. He’s also been tipped to blow up this year by Red Bull and featured in their Australian hip-hop documentary series, This Is Home.

After spending much of last year touring alongside Baker Boy, Dallas is back and ready to dial everything up a notch. Stay tuned for more, coming soon.

National Indigenous Music Awards announce date

ARTIST NOMINATIONS CLOSE THIS FRIDAY

The National Indigenous Music Awards are pleased to announce that Australia’s biggest virtual celebration of Australian First Nations talent will proceed on August 8 across TV, radio and online, ensuring that Australians from Cape York to Cockle Creek to Carnarvon and everywhere in between can join in.

Host TV broadcaster NITV will join with radio and online partners to create a unique presentation live from Darwin, Larrakia Country and locations across Australia, with iconic artist performances both at home and on-country and of course the presentation of 2020’s NIMAs acknowledging success and excellence from across the community.
Viewers will be encouraged to join in on social media and will contribute to the event live, bringing the country together in an ambitious production, letting the NIMA stars shine in every community.

“The NIMAs star has shone brightly for seventeen years and far from dimming that light, COVID has emboldened us to re-imagine what the event can be,” said Creative Director Ben Graetz. “At its heart, the NIMAs is about celebrating our culture and music’s important place within it and we think that being forced to let go of the constraints of location will enable us to reach even more people and create an even bigger welcome mat for Australians to experience and celebrate First Nations music.”

Nominations for this year’s awards close this Friday with all songs and albums released before May 31 by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people eligible. All artists who have appeared in the weekly National Indigenous Music Chart will also be automatically nominated for the awards. Awards will be judged by eminent community members and music industry professionals with finalists to be announced in early July.

“I am delighted to continue the NITV tradition of broadcasting the National Indigenous Music Awards. NITV is committed to celebrating Indigenous musicians from all over Australia. Music has always been a strong part of our people’s Cultures,” said NITV Channel Manager, Tanya Denning-Orman.

What a huge honour, APRA AMCOS ‘Songwriter of the Year!

What a huge honour, APRA AMCOS ‘Songwriter of the Year! Never in our wildest dreams did we think we’d ever win this award. Having it presented to us by Trials and Briggs of A.B. Original made it extra special, having presented the same award to them two years earlier. The only thing that could have made it more special was to have received it in a big fancy room with free booze and actual people, haha. A big thanks to our teams at Blue Max Music and Sony/ATV Music Publishing Australia you guys this wouldn’t have been possible.
