JamarzOnMarz, an Australian Lyricist and Saxophonist, releases his first single, ‘Amnesia’, from his forthcoming debut project. After the release of the Spotify Viral Chart hit, ‘Fire Extinguisher’, JamarzOnMarz is making a return to his worldwide audience with another controversial hit, but this time produced by the renown CashMoneyAp. Lyrically, ‘Amnesia’ delves into an uncharted Hip-Hop territory, as it dabbles with themes of gay sexuality and culture, and calls for a reinvigoration of competitive rap in Australia.

“I’m in my own lane. Who else can get straight people rapping gay lyrics?” – JamarzOnMarz

Three things inspired Jamarz’ amnesia: one, Grindr ‘hook-ups’ that became possessive (Jamarz identifies as gay), two, the use of party drugs inherent in gay nightlife culture, and thirdly, the Australian music industry overlooking his talent and accomplishments. Jamarz cements his self-proclaimed rise to rap “suprem[acy]” with clever plays on his sexuality; “Our closets aren’t on par, masc[uline] can’t match marz bar for bar”, and his alto saxophone subtly sampled throughout the track.

On a recent Instagram Live, JamarzOnMarz stated that ‘Amnesia’ is “the greatest Australian rap song, ever”. Jamarz’ confidence has built up over the past year following a performance with Solange in her band; for four sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House, a set at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games on a LGBTQ line-up; with Courtney Act and Marcia Hines, and a Guinness World Record Toga Party; at the iconic Riverstage in Brisbane.

Krosswerdz Recordings (KWR) Announce The End Of An Era

It’s time to move on.

Krosswerdz Recordings (KWR) came together in 2009 in order to release 3 albums; “Unrelenting” by Wizdm, “It Is What It Is” by Oakbridge and “Bastion” by Brethren (Mistery & Wizdm).

It continued on from there as other artists came on board starting with The Profit, then Izzy, Bay Side Wreckers, Shelly.H, Reckoncyle, BRB & Sounds Like Dsipl. It is with great sadness that we share the news that the label has announced that it is hanging up the boots.

“After 9 years in operation it’s become clear that it’s time to wrap up KWR as a label. There’s been a fair few ups and downs but it’s been a dope journey. We’ve worked hard, come up with some cool ideas (like the 3B), collab’d with some amazing artists and released some dope music (in our humble opinion)”.

Although the KWR label is closing, the individual artists and crews will continue to release new music. Keep an eye out for that.

Resin Dogs return with new single Activate The Soul feat. Mantra

In the true revolutionary spirit of Hip Hop, Resin Dogs have continuously evolved their style, always staying a few steps ahead of the pack. In November 2018 they will release their latest album ‘NOTORIOUS D.O.G’ which has spawned 3 singles: ‘So Long’, ‘Como No’ feat. Essa and ‘Activate the Soul’ feat. Mantra.

The seeds of ‘Activate the Soul’ were sown when DJ Katch and Plutonic Lab were digging through some records looking for sounds, and Plutonic had his sampler ready. It started from there. The tune was worked on over the next few months adding drums and basslines before the lyrical magician Mantra stepped up to the studio mic to lay down his vocals. Activate the Soul feat. Mantra is available now.

Remi and Raiza Biza Release Runner featuring Production by Black Milk

Melbourne artist REMI and musical collaborator Sensible J are one of the fastest-rising Hip Hop acts in Australia and are quickly gaining the attention of international tastemakers.

“This is the first body of work we’ve ever done that feels like it’s a diary. It’s pretty much my experience of the last two years in terms of relationship stuff, race stuff, political observations and mental health. I think you can hear that in the album, you can hear that it’s my brain… lyrically”. – Remi

Out on REMI’s imprint, House of Beige, the sixteen-track sophomore LP features the widely loved singles “For Good” featuring Sampa the Great, and “Substance Therapy”, and “Lose Sleep” featuring Jordan Rakei.

As well as performing their own sold-out headline tours and world-class festivals, REMI have also shared the stage with Danny Brown, Vic Mensa, De La Soul, Joey Bada$$ and in December this year were invited to perform Gorillaz tracks with Damon Albarn on each of his Australian Tour shows. REMI’s appeal is as diverse as it is impressive.

“Runner” is a high tempo beat driven out an out hip hop track with dynamic production and hooks throughout, and shows why Black Milk is one of hip hops most respected producers, and why Remi and Raiza Biza are two of the most exciting emcees coming out of the Southern Hemisphere.

Following the success of their ‘Nightowl’ project in 2015, G-Shock and Sneaker Freaker have joined forces once again on a collaborative project. Commemorating 35 years of G-Shock watches and 15 years of Sneaker Freaker magazine, the new ‘REDBACK’ DW5700SF-1D watch is laden with subtle conceptual flourishes and personal observation.

REDBACK_GSHOCK_SNEAKERFREAKER_10

In 1983, G-SHOCK was born from Mr Kikuo Ibe’s dream to create an unbreakable watch. Over the next 35 years, relentless innovation has kept the brand at the forefront of time-keeping technology. G-Shock has grown to be a powerhouse in streetwear culture, donning the wrists of some of the world’s most influential personalities and collaborating with some of the greatest brands and designers of our time.

Established in 2002 by Simon ‘Woody’ Wood as a niche magazine catering to the underground community of footwear connoisseurs, Sneaker Freaker is an unlikely global publishing phenomenon that is proudly based in Melbourne, Australia. Known for their irreverent attitude, Sneaker Freaker has an impeccable track record of delivering idiosyncratic collaborations with brands including New Balance, adidas, PUMA and Montana Cans among others.

REDBACK_GSHOCK_SNEAKERFREAKER_12

Turning to their antipodean roots for inspiration, Sneaker Freaker’s G-SHOCK design was inspired by one of Australia’s deadliest arachnids. The redback spider is a notorious and prolific inhabitant of outback shacks and dark suburban nooks. Despite their small stature, the female spider’s deadly neurotoxin can prove fatal to humans.

Sneaker Freaker’s founder, Simon ‘Woody’ Wood is a noted G-SHOCK collector with more than 300 watches in his keep. With product knowledge acquired over more than two decades, his aficionado affinity with the Japanese brand is highly visible in the Redback design.

“I love nerding out on the details and those red-faced ‘20th Tribute Series’ watches are some of my favourite Gs of all time. They still trade hands among collectors for big money! When the Redback concept came together, the ‘Vampire’ display just had to happen, but there were several technical hurdles to overcome. This is a highly personal nod to my love of G-SHOCK, and I’m very grateful they allowed me to use the iconic red display.”  Woody – Sneaker Freaker

The undoubted highlight is the blood-red LCD screen. Known by G-SHOCK collectors as the ‘Vampire’ display, this unique feature has only been used once, back in 2003, as part of G-SHOCK’S 20th anniversary celebrations.

Coated in ‘cool grey’ matte resin, the branding, clasp and keeper are accented in metallic black pops. Debossed with Sneaker Freaker’s logo, the backplate was also dipped in black ion plating. Flipping the two-tone strap from grey to red mimics the spider’s natural livery, while a spindly cobweb was spun around the clasp, adding a subtle thematic touch to the strap.

Launching in Melbourne on the night of Halloween, the limited edition Redback is housed in custom packaging that brings coffin couture to the world of G-SHOCK. Limited tickets are available to the launch event featuring performances from Kwame, Melbourne local Kaiit, HANS DC, YO! Mafia and special guests.

As an added bonus, STANCE was also tapped to contribute their creativity to the project. Known for their ground-breaking approach to sock construction, STANCE supplied a pair of their high-tech Ventron socks to the Redback ensemble.

RELEASE DETAILS
The Sneaker Freaker x G-SHOCK ‘Redback’ DW5700SF-1D will be released in limited numbers with the custom coffin packaging from sneakerfreaker.com on November 1 and then the rest of Australia the following day.

Global G-SHOCK retailers will sell the watch in standard packaging from November 8.

After generating an inescapable buzz in Australia and underground hip-hop scenes across the globe, Sydney’s Triple One have now released their new single ‘Showoff.’ Having accumulated well over 20 million total streams, Triple One are Australia’s most promising emerging hip-hop act, and state their mission once more on ‘Showoff.’

Premiering on triple j, ‘Showoff’ features the group’s signature blend of hard-headed rap, melodic hooks and intense production. The accompanying video clip is shot in a nostalgic high school setting, but with very subversive undertones – featuring cameos from Triple One’s favourite rap colleagues and collaborators including ChillinIt, Wombat, Huskii, Lil Sknow, Raj Mahal, Talakai, Turquoise Prince and Freesouls. The video was created by Entropico, with styling by Asia Carino and photography by Cole Bennetts.

“The Australian hip-hop scene is crazy right now, we wanted to unite some of our favourite artists to replicate our own high school days,” Triple One say. “That, and we wanted to wear school uniforms again. Forgot how to do a tie, but we got there in the end.”

Thus far, Triple One’s career has progressed entirely organically, reaching all corners of the globe through online sharing. Fan favourite track ‘Autumn Collection’ has reached over 5 million streams online, while cult singles like ‘Doozy’ have become instantly quotable anthems, displaying the group’s ability to switch between R&B and rap with slick confidence.

With sell-out shows and recent festival appearances at Listen Out and Bigsound, Triple One will continue hitting stages all over the country including Festival of the Sun and Falls Festival this summer, with their shows earning a notorious live reputation. Triple One are not to be missed live, but stand well back if you’re scared of getting your beer spilled.

Fresh Violet is back with an exciting new video and single ‘Natural Born Killers (feat. Mr Ruckman)’ taken from her forthcoming debut album 50 Shades Of Violet – set for release later this year. The clip reflects a darker more playful energy from Violet, reinvigorating the sound from her 2017 single Gangsta whist maintaining the unapologetic attitude from her 2018 prelude EP ACKBARS.

Taking on a Harley Quinn and Joker styled relationship, the short film for NBK drips with inspiration from the film of the same name released in 1994. It displays Violet and Mr Ruckman on a wild rampage through the city streets, ticking off members from their hit-list with each verse. The intricately scripted, call-and-response wordplay delivers an exciting performance with unnoticed double-entendre punchlines jumping out from the duo with each listen.

Natural Born Killers unveils an impenitent honesty to Fresh Violets personality, showcasing a never before seen anger in her work, revealing one of the 50 Shades of Violet that can be expected from her highly anticipated debut album.
