NEW MUSIC – NOOKY… BLACK FUTURE

NOOKY has come out firing with a chant for the next generation of Black Excellence, with a stand-alone track – BLACK FUTURE. Today, the Bad Apples signee has dropped the explosive song ‘BLACK FUTURE” accompanied by a blistering clip.

A perfect NAIDOC anthem – the track points to Black Excellence and the opportunities for the rappers Peoples to achieve anything. They are the future.

“The song is about black excellence, about the feats we have achieved in the past but also about what we are doing now and what we are about to do”

NOOKY burst into the Australian Hip Hop scene in 2010, his technical rap style and thought provoking lyrics propelled him forward. He’s Yuin blood line and culture informs his music, he pulls no punches when his culture and people are under fire, he remains unapologetically honest while delivering unique and tactful music.

NOOKY is set to release his debut project via Bad Apples Music (BAM) later this year.

BAM is a force to be reckoned with. There was an undeniable energy that was created when bam made its introduction to the game and it just keeps getting stronger and stronger, I feel at home at BAM because I know my brothers got my back and trust I got theirs. We walked through the fire and learnt how to use it.”

BAD APPLES SHOWCASE PRESENTED BY LEVI’S@ CHANGES SUMMIT

Bad Apples Music today announce a powerful live showcase as part of Melbourne’s CHANGES Music Industry Summit on Thursday July 5th 2018, presented by Levi’s®. Igniting the creative showcase are innovative artists Birdz, Mojo JujuPhilly, DRMNGNOW and Soju Gang who are set to deliver awe-inspiring and eye-opening performances as Melbourne looks to the future of the music industry.

Bad Apples Music is Australia’s most prolific Aboriginal record label, nurturing artists and providing platforms for excellence in the music sector. Founded by Briggs, the label maintains a foundational objective in using music as a platform for social change, educating and fostering the talent of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists while providing guidance through high level production and navigating the cultural and social issues that fuel their inspiring art.

Leading the line up of powerhouse voices on July 5 in Melbourne is Northern Territory raised, Melbourne based rapper Birdz. Following the release of his debut record in 2017 Train of Thought, the young emcee was launched into the national spotlight through support from Triple J, Triple J Unearthed and community radio for his honest words and raw perspective on prolific social issues. The album, nominated for Best Independent Hip Hop Album at the 2018 AIR Awards, included addictive singles “This Side” feat.Serina Pech“Rise” feat. Jimblah, and the politically charged “Black Lives Matter”, which collectively hold over 570k plays on Spotify. The groundbreaking artist’s burgeoning popularity has also seen him take the stage with the likes of Briggs, The Funkoars, Joelistics, and The Thundamentals on their 2015 ‘Elephant in the Room’ tour.

Accompanying Birdz is Mojo Juju; who is set to bring her energising sonic prowess to the Bad Apples showcase, treating audiences to a taste of her soulful, fluid vocals and flair for the unpredictable, which are sure to ignite the crowd into a groove dance fest. The effortlessly cool singer’s latest single “Think Twice” introduces her latest musical transformation, moving away from her defining groove-heavy style toward a pop and funk fuelled floor-filler while maintaining an air of seduction through her lyricism. Her unique approach to art and allusions to political issues shared among her fellow performers, makes for a perfect partnership on the exciting event.

Mildura MC Philly rapidly emerged as a hip hop sensation in Australia, channelling values of peace and unity into his art and using his voice to spark change and inspire others. The young rapper’s flourishing success and dedicated fanbase broadened in 2015, following his breathtaking instalment for Triple J’s Like A Version covering Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”, the release of his debut EP Dreamchaser and his achievement in being named the National Indigenous Music Awards ‘New Talent of the Year’. Philly is back in 2018, with his much-anticipated debut album slated for release later this year.

Yorta Yorta MC and Keeper of Song DRMNGNOW who will be lending his poetry and genre pushing sound to the unmissable lineup. Known for his unique fusions of singing in language with hip-hop and soul lyricism driven by infectious experimental beats, the innovative artist makes an impeccable addition to the summit in celebrating emerging voices who represent the future of the music industry. Previously sharing the stage in support of Sampa the GreatMasta Ace and REMI, the talented artist’s dynamic synthesis of sound and tradition can’t be missed at the Bad Apples showcase.

Melbourne jaw-dropper Soju Gang will also be appearing at the hometown showcase, igniting crowds with her high-energy throwback fusion of hip hop and RNB party vibes that will be sure to get the festival goers moving.

NEW MUSIC // BIRDZ & OMAR MUSA – ABOUT ME

BAD APPLES MUSIC, this week released a firing collab from BIRDZ and OMAR MUSA – “ABOUT ME”; a track dedicated to those people who have a misrepresented view about their ‘Straya.

BIRDZ opens the track shooting scathing blows to those Australians who are suffering from a serious case of denial; denial of Australia’s history of genocide, obnoxiously boasting that Indigenous people should just ‘get over it’. OMAR MUSA follows closely dealing with the trolls (*looking at you Mark Latham) who are angry about him speaking out about how he feels, while touching on how “the right eat everyone else’s kids, while the left eat their own”.

We are so quick to tear ourselves apart instead of building alliances, while the real powers that be continue on and its politics as usual.” – OMAR MUSA

The inspiration behind the hookeverybody wanna talk about me” is the tired and typical scenario of they know us better than we know ourselves bullshit. My verse is a strong Black middle finger to that.” – BIRDZ

NEW VIDEO // BIRDZ ‘THIS SIDE’

On a dismal Melbourne day BIRDZ and his crew brought some serious game to the streets of Melbourne’s north side with his powerful new video clip for ‘THIS SIDE’.

Featuring cameos from Bad Apples boss man BRIGGS and stable mate NOOKY and the most important of all his one year old son. The clip inspires excellence no matter the adversity. Set amongst the iconic Richmond commission flats and industrial streets of the Melbourne music mecca Fitzroy, the clip is a challenge; a challenge to rise up against the odds, bring your A game and know you can achieve what you set your mind too. Katherine singer Serina Pech who features on the record brings home the message with her soulful chorus “Ain’t nobody gonna get in my way, rise and shine it’s a brand new day, we going up on this side, we going up on this side’ .

THIS SIDE is the MC’s testament to the integrity of Bad Apples Music and the key driver of the record label and the signed artists – Black Excellence.

“This Side is about letting people know where I’m at as an artist. Being a part the Bad Apples family and movement is something that I’m extremely proud of and I really wanted a dope visual that represented that feeling and showcased Black Excellence” BIRDZ

NEW MUSIC // BIRDZ – THIS SIDE

BIRDZ drops single ‘THIS SIDE featuring SERINA PECH’

BIRDZ has spoken to Australia’s heart with his singles ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘Rise’, discussing the hardships and discrimination that Australia’s Indigenous community experience.

With legions of fans rising up, BIRDZ is ready to launch his debut album, ‘TRAIN OF THOUGHT’ with lead single, ‘THIS SIDE’. It’s an upbeat, shoulder rolling, groover! All attitude and statement of intent. It’s an anthem for world domination by the man who’s not afraid to go for it and ruffle some feathers if he has to, dissing the haters.

THIS SIDE is the MC’s testament to the integrity of Bad Apples Music and the key driver of the record label and the signed artists – Black Excellence. BIRDZ teamed up with fellow Katherine (NT) singer songwriter Serina Pech who joins his melodic rhymes with smooth singalong chorus.

“It’s a celebration of the Bad Apples Music movement and our presence in Australia’s music industry – planting the flag so to speak and letting everyone know that we’re here to stay.” – BIRDZ

BIRDZ is one of the country’s most exciting hip-hop acts on the rise, already having performed at St Kilda Festival, The Hills Are Alive and Groovin The Moo, after supporting A.B. ORIGINAL, THE FUNKOARS, THUNDAMENTALS & SAMPA THE GREAT in 2016. The Butchulla emcee is solidifying himself as the country’s most exciting hip-hop act to emerge from the scene.

FOX LEAGUE x BRIGGS NEW TITLE TRACK ‘HERE’

FOX LEAGUE has teamed up with Indigenous rapper and CEO of Bad Apples Music, BRIGGS, to create the channel’s new anthem for the 2017 NRL season, ‘Here’, featuring Caiti Baker.

The release coincides with the 2017 Indigenous Round, the signature track is a bold tune that celebrates the game of Rugby League. “FOX LEAGUE is a brand-new channel that’s young, fresh, and inclusive to all NRL fans.

In developing the signature theme tune, we were looking to collaborate with an artist that understood what we were trying to create; a track that reflected the values of the channel, and championed every aspect of the game.

“BRIGGS was the perfect choice. After a day in the recording studio at Uncanny Valley, he and his team emerged with a track that perfectly encapsulated the attitude of the new channel,” said FOX SPORTS’ Group Creative Director, Guy Sawrey-Cookson

“I created this track as the theme for the FOX LEAGUE channel – the song reflects the journey of the Indigenous players – who give so much excitement and leadership to the sport and community week in and week out, not just the specific Indigenous round,” said BRIGGS.

BRIGGS wrote the lyrics to the new title track and collaborated with vocalist Caiti Baker to record the song. “Here” will also be available in a new music video, directed and produced by the FOX SPORTS creative team. The cover artwork for the single was designed by Indigenous artist Reko Rennie.

You can download / stream the track here: https://Xelon.lnk.to/H-a9S

BRIGGS will also perform the song live at the Suncorp double-header as part of the NRL Indigenous Round on Saturday 13 May.
