Howdy gangsters, I want to try talk about this without it becoming political

Howdy gangsters,

I want to try talk about this without it becoming political. I have family i love that don’t see eye to eye with me politically, so no doubt there’s heaps more. No problem.

Jobkeeper ends this Sunday. Frankly, it’s a disgrace that very wealthy people who haven’t needed it have made fortunes off exploiting what was meant as a social safety net. How cooked. But that wouldn’t shit me as much if on Sunday, many people it was actually designed to keep afloat are completely fucked.

Thoughts go to everyone about to really have a tough time of it for a while. Especially in the arts and entertainment industry. A little over a year ago our industry bent backwards to raise money for bushfire victims. It’s been sickening, infuriating, and now desperately sad, to see how little the people in power give a fuck about an industry that gives so much, was first to shut, and will be last to open properly. Hope we never forget this big, rolling fuck you.

I don’t think people literally not allowed to do their jobs struggling to make ends meet is political. I don’t mean the artists, i mean the people behind the scenes without whom nothing happens. The crews in arts and entertainment bust their asses. These aren’t bludgers or welfare rorters. And a lot of them will leave the industry because we still can’t work or tour anywhere close to properly, and they still have to keep the lights on.

Anyway, i don’t know. Hope everyone, in whatever job, keeps their head up and gets through to the other side of this absolute fuckwit situation wev been in. Wer close but i know that’s cold comfort for those still at the pointy end of it.

Donate where you can, voice your concern where you can, burn down a billionaire who profited off jobkeepers house where you can.. actually don’t do that last one and forget i said it.

Cheers,
illy al

New Ras Kass Single With Alerts and Simplex “The Vortex” Out Now

maxresdefault 1 2

One of the all-time talented West Coast lyricists Ras Kass has teamed up with Australian rappers Alerts and Simplex on the new single “The Vortex” filmed across Los Angles and Brisbane in Australia’s northeast. The near 4-minute single has long been in the works and delayed by COVID-19 travel restrictions, with film production companies No.One Network and Revolving Productions seamlessly overcoming the physical distance barriers to provide a quality product of the highest order befitting of the lyrical content – watch below.

The new single finishes off in some respects Ras Kass’s recent debut tour of Australia’s East Coast in which he was supported nationally by rising Australian rapper Alerts prior to the global pandemic that has meant all major international tours are on hold for now. This first natural collaboration between these three extends itself to potentially not being the last time we see them together on a track carrying on with that classic boom-bap flavor that has gone well and truly international. A new and exciting chapter for the legendary Ras Kass, proving his influence as one of hip hop’s greats knows no real boundaries. “The Vortex” is out now.

5 YEARS ON (volume ⬆️): I love that such a difficult time for me as an artist resulted in this record that gave me so much back.

It was an ambitious concept started in my mid 30s and released in my late 30s. I wiped my ego almost clean and entered without the burden of expectation so I enjoyed the release; the touring and everything about it, in a way that I’d kinda forgotten after so many years of album cycles and gigs and all the industry stuff.

Funny how the more professional and adept you become as an artist, the less enjoyable it can be. I gave everything to this record but I gave less of a fuck about *success* and just appreciated the privilege of being able to do it. Turned out that was the sweet spot 😍

Too many brilliant artists I got to work with who I can’t tag. Many barely use facebook anymore cos of how facebook uses artists. But I have so much love for Hermitude, Pip Norman, Kira Puru, Bertie Blackman, Jane Tyrrell, B Wise, Nic Martin, Sarah McCloskey, L-FRESH The LION, Mirrah, Okenyo, Jayteehazard, Claire Nakazawa, Meklit, Sampa the Great, Montaigne, Rahj Jordan, Dggz, Elefant Traks, Caitlin Park, Broken Yellow, Jen Ng.

Ty to Sereen Sounds for cutting this video together.
