NEW ARTIST SIGNING – KOBIE DEE WITH NEW SINGLE – “JODY”
Today, upcoming Gamilaroi artist Kobie Dee shares his latest track, “Jody”. As one of the most exciting new voices emerging in the Australian hip hop scene, today’s release arrives alongside the news that Kobie joins the nation’s leading label for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, Bad Apples Music.
At just 21-years-old, Kobie Dee has an innate gift for story-telling and connecting with young people, and in “Jody” he delivers yet another powerful track. Pairing fiercely tight rhymes with a natural flow, the MC’s raw, honest and effortless lyrical talent is strikingly captivating. Guided by a strong but gentle beat, “Jody” puts the singer/songwriter under his own spotlight, drawing the nation’s attention to the Bad Apples signee as an undisputed rising star. A career highlight to date, Kobie stepped into the booth for triple j’s Bars Of Steel, which not only inspired the track itself but also saw a surge of support from the industry and fans alike as it became one of the most successful episodes to date, with over 320k views and counting. Kobie Dee on the single:
“Jody is a story about three boys who were brought up in broken homes which led them down the wrong path. Dealt a bad hand in life they are easily persuaded to make some bad decisions. I wrote this song to highlight some of the things that go on in this city.”
Alongside the release of “Jody”, Kobie excitedly shares that he will join the roster at Australia’s most prolific Aboriginal record label, Bad Apples Music. Founded by Briggs, the label maintains a foundational objective in using music as a platform for social change, educating and fostering the talent of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Also providing guidance through high level production and navigating the cultural and social issues that fuel their inspiring art, the signing is a seamless match with Kobie Dee, who has been putting pen to paper since age 9. Briggs on the signing:
“He is an exciting young artist. He shows amazing skill in the fundamentals of hip-hop, especially story telling which I feel is a big part missing in hip-hop and music at the moment. We are excited to see Kobie’s growth and to help him achieve what’s next in his career. “
With just a couple of tracks released and a handful of freestyle videos floating around, Kobie has found a loyal following, with an accumulated 700k views across Facebook and Youtube. Generating a buzz from day one, his first two official singles “Right Now” and “This Life” captured the attention of fans and industry heavyweights alike. As an artist, Kobie Dee is deeply engaged with his community through live performance and youth mentoring programs, where his passion for his culture and people is inspiring new generations.
Focused on creating new music to further cement his hip-hop career, todays release sees Kobie continue to impress and exceed expectations. With an appearance at Briggs’ Bad Apples House Partyand an already solid fan-base across Australia, “Jody” is just the beginning for Kobie Dee as he sets out to make his mark on 2019 with Bad Apples Music backing him along the way.
