Nooky explores the facets of addiction on new clip ‘Numb’

Nooky burst onto the scene in 2010, after moving from Nowra to Sydney and gaining attention for his unmatched rhymes and technical rap style. After making a name for himself in his new hometown, the multidisciplinary artist first received international recognition on a chance meeting with Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas. In 2016, he took home the Australia Council’s Dreaming Prize for young Indigenous artists, before going on to release his debut solo single “Black Future” in 2018.Nooky’s name has been built on the energetic shows he delivers proud in his blackness while firm in every word’s ferocity.  Nooky has positioned his music and voice at the forefront of conversations around changing the date and educating others on the Nation’s true history.

“Numb” broadens Nooky’s unapologetic attitude while taking a step back from his signature fiery lyrics and drawing focus to his honest words, a dip in trap production and warped beats courtesy of collaborator Solo. Speaking to its name, the track explores the facets of addiction, unpacking moments at the brink of emotion when substances are turned to for numbing pain. Numb is produced by IamSolo, with guitar and additional vox by Thom Crawford. The video was produced by Level 48 Visuals, shot and edited by Nelson Faulds and directed by Nelson Faulds and Nooky.

Baker Boy Shares New Video For ‘In Control’

Fresh from his dynamic set at Melbourne’s Reclink Community Cup and as part of NAIDOC week appearances on TV program’s Playschool (ABC) and Insight (SBS), Baker Boy today drops a brand-new video for his single ‘In Control’.

unnamed

Directed by Onil Kotian, whose previous works include videos for Angus & Julia Stone (‘Snow’, ‘Cedar Door’), the clip was shot at the PCYC in North Sydney and features a crew of energetic young dancers, handpicked by the director and Danzal Baker aka Baker Boy.

Baker Boy says about the video, “It was so much fun getting the kids involved in the video, they were all crazy talented dancers, blew me away!

For me, it was such an obvious choice to have kids and a mini-me lead the video to really marry the concept of the song to the visual. Also connecting the kids of T.I.M.E in the chorus back to the video as well!

I wanted to give some kids out there an opportunity I didn’t have growing up as well – you never know this opportunity could lead to really big things for one of those kids or even inspire other kids out there to get involved, believe in themselves and put themselves out there to be chosen for an opportunity like this. No matter young or old, you are in control of your future!”

‘In Control’ was co-written with award-winning writer/producer and multi-instrumentalist Pip Norman (Troye Sivan, Tuka, CXLOE). Rapping in his native language Yolngu Matha, the track was premiered on triple j and features the T.I.M.E (Thornbury Instrumental Music Experience) Crew of Thornbury Primary.

The song was instantly added to triple j and major community radio influencers FBi, 4ZZZ and Radio Adelaide as well as playlists; Spotify’s Front Left, Indie Arrivals and The Drip and Apple Music’s Heaps Indie and The New Australia. ‘In Control’ has also been championed by influential music media in Australia such as Happy Mag, Red Bull Australia, Pilerats, Tone Deaf, The Music and Music Feeds to name but a few.

Baker Boy will be performing at the Yours & Owls All -Ages Festival in Wollongong on Saturday, October 5th and a free performance at the Palmy Street Party on Saturday, July 20, celebrating Youth Week in Palmerston N.T. (include all Festivals)

UK to AUS – Yizzy Releases the video for ‘Yeah’ RMX feat. Shadow and Nerve

Keeping the international Grime momentum moving: Yizzy, Shadow and Nerve are releasing the slick visual for ‘YEAH’ RMX.Set against a monochrome filter, the track kicks off with striking cinematic horn samples moving straight through to Yizzy’s high energy chorus -throwing back to the old school call and response Grime bars, juxtaposed with the choral samples that legendary producer Mr Virgo has become well known for.

One for the club and for the car, ‘YEAH’ RMX is 4 minutes of unrelenting power. Shadow and Nerve’s respective verses embrace the 140BPM energy whilst giving it their own unique Aussie flair – musically and visually.

Yizzy is an MC demanding attention. A massive 2018 for the artist saw him release the critically acclaimed EP: ‘SOS’ – stacking up several million Spotify streams, and numerous end of year lists.

Both Shadow and Nerve are known figures on the Australian hip hop scene and are now emerging onto the global grime scene with features on the Triple J show and 100’s of live shows under their belt.

Pushing for international grime to be more than a passing trend – this collaboration is defining the evolving scope of what it might look like.
