Mirrah Infuses Soul With 90’s Influences For New Single, ‘Hold On’

It’s been four years since we last heard from Sydney emcee MIRRAH. From her debut mixtape REFLECT-I-ON and her debut EP, LIFE, she confirmed her status as a force not to reckoned with on the hip-hop scene, and now the Sydney legend is back with another soulful release.

HOLD ON Single Art

Fresh from joining the Elefant Traks crew on RAGE and triple j’s Like A Version, supporting Urthboy, performing with Mojo Juju, and jumping up on stage to perform with both L-FRESH the LION and OKENYO at the Elefant Traks 20th birthday celebrations, Mirrah’s new single ‘Hold On’ proves she really is not only one of the most exciting artists in the scene right now, but also one of the most innovative and versatile voices as well.

With an extensive history in hip-hop both as an artist and dancer, Mirrah has spent the last few years performing and collaborating with L-FRESH the LION, while working on her own music. Focusing on the power and importance of self-love, Mirrah channels her life experience into her storytelling and poetry, while using pop-influenced soul and hip-hop beats which she rides with ease.

‘Hold On’ is all about remembering what is really important: good friends, living in the moment, and of course, love. Inspired by the mad rush of stores during Christmas time and how easily lost people became in their hunt for meaningless gifts, Mirrah reminds us all to never lose sight of those gifts that you can’t buy.

Taken from her forthcoming EP, LOVE, Mirrah channels conscious hip-hop influences like A Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, Common, Rapsody and even Kendrick Lamar as she lets her message out into the world. Now, as she steps back into the well-deserved spotlight, Mirrah brings her trademark soulful, passionate rhymes coupled with 90’s influenced beats and grooves with her, and with her forthcoming EP release, she aims to provide a bit of comfort and solace in a world that makes that hard to find.

Drapht Introduces ‘Arabella Street’ Part 2

New Single ’24hrs Of Sunlight’ Out Now

Australian hip-hop artist Drapht has a special treat for his fans today. The multi-platinum, ARIA award winning Perth artist has just dropped Part 2 of his sprawling Arabella Street album as well as a brand-new single ’24hrs of Sunlight’ produced with Six Four.

Drapht – 24hrs of Sunlight

Premiered this week on triple j Good Nights, ’24hrs of Sunlight’ is catchy as hell and summer anthem in the making. Drapht explains further…

“The concept for ’24hrs of Sunlight’ has travelled through many different production styles and life forms over the last 7 years. The idea originally came from a David Attenborough documentary about the midnight sun in the arctic – where vulnerable animals would be on constant high alert without a place to hide. It felt like a fitting metaphor for an untrusting relationship, where one would keep track of the other.”

‘24hrs of Sunlight’ is one of four brand new tracks to feature on Arabella Street (Part 2), out today via The Orchard/Sony Music. The new music is the companion piece to Arabella Street – released back in May and featuring breakout single ‘The Come Down Was Real’.

The sum of all these parts will form Drapht’s six full-length studio album – to be released in 2019. The majority of the material was written during an extended road trip across the West Coast of America in 2017, driving around a 30ft RV.

Ty Mikado Teams Up With His Brother On New Single ‘Monster’

‘Monster’ is the latest offering from one of Australian Hip-Hop’s best-kept secrets ’Ty Mikado’. Released digitally on all major platforms and accompanied by a dark masterpiece of a music video, complete with some levitation because, well why not? The video visually represents the feelings of depression and anxiety expressed throughout the lyrics of the track.
bb6c5e52014cc6e61ec3614d2b45203740cf4fc4.jpg
The instrumental was originally crafted by Sydney beatsmith ‘Patrick James’, who also happens to be Ty’s brother, with post-production on the beat performed by Mikado. The mix and master were executed by Ty at the Indigo Embassy, and the music video was even directed and edited by the man himself. So it seems it’s true, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself…

YG Announces Triple One As Support For Australian Tour

YG has revealed that Sydney motley crew Triple One will be the national support for his Australian tour which will hit our shores in two short weeks.

Tasman Kieth Releases Debut EP ‘Mission Famous’

Following up the fire-spitting ode to personal triumph, My Pelopolees, Tasman Keith has flipped the table with the music video for Divided; a smooth flow about the harder times, depression and the blurred lines between shared experiences.

Divided was the final taste of Tasman Keith’s debut EP ‘Mission Famous‘ ahead of its release today, Friday, October 26. To celebrate it’s release Tasman is now the cover photo for the official Australian Hip Hop Spotify playlist, ‘All Aussie Hip Hop’.

600x600bf

A loud voice in the fight for recognition, compassion and acceptance for individuals struggling through mental illness; Tasman takes the stories of those in his circle, combines them with his own personal stories and challenges his audience to find the line.

“Divided speaks from a standpoint in which I’m finding myself in the same position as many people do, dealing with depression and issues that are tough to face. Throughout the entire song, I dip in between speaking from a personal experience and taking the experience of others that I have seen be affected by these issues, people in my circle, family. The challenge for the listener is trying to find where that line is drawn, which parts are my truth and which parts are the truths of others,” said Tasman.

2017 marked a major milestone for Tasman; bursting on the independent hip-hop scene with his debut studio single ‘Might Snap’ which followed multiple underground mixtape releases since 2014. ‘Might Snap’ went into rotation across several community radio platforms including FBi Radio and received critical acclaim on triple j Unearthed. Shortly after, Tasman teamed up with ARIA nominated producer James Mangohig and Bad Apples Music’s Nooky to begin the process of compiling his debut studio EP.

Tasman has since shared the stage with renowned artists such as A. B. Original, Briggs, Birdz and Caiti Baker and performed at the Blue Mountain Music Festival and the Bad Apples Music House Party. Tasman had also collaborated with renown writer, poet, and rapper Omar Musa for the lead single ‘Assimilate’ on his album, ‘Since Ali Died’.

Tasman echoes the powerful message he presents in his music, using his platform to be a powerful voice for social justice and Indigenous issues. He was invited by lauded UK hip-hop artist, poet, writer, and activist Akala to sit on the Sydney Ideas Panel during which Tasman spoke passionately about the importance of using hip-hop as a medium to shed light on important issues facing his community and society at large.
